Parasite Control & Prevention

Some internal parasites can be fatal. Protect your pet with a parasite control and prevention plan.

Worms, parasites, fleas, and ticks can cause irreparable damage to your pet's health. Some internal parasites such as heartworms can be fatal. One way to prevent your pet from harm is to follow a parasite control and prevention plan throughout the year. Apart from being on the plan, pet owners should also regularly test their pets for worms and parasites. Specific types of vaccinations are strongly recommended for pets in areas prone to certain parasites.

When should puppies and kittens start a prevention and control plan?

Puppies and kittens should receive the first medication at 2 weeks of age with repetitive doses every 2 weeks until regular broad-spectrum parasite control is in place.

What measures can I take to prevent parasites in my pets?

In addition to being on a parasite control and prevention plan, other measures you can take to prevent parasites include:

  • Feeding cooked and prepared foods
  • Covering sandboxes when not in use
  • Immediately picking up after your pet
  • Practicing good personal hygiene when handling animal waste
  • Neutering and spaying pets
